From Chrysler.

So what is this?

Kinja'd!!!

Why, a Sunbeam of course. Not the Lotus variety sadly. Bonus Peugeot 104 (you can still see these in daily use in France) and Toyota Carina. Note the all-glass hatch and top mounted wiper.

Similar in size but a completely different car despite some similarities. The Sunbeam was a cut-down Avenger, a rwd car. The Chrysler/Simca/Talbot Horizon was our version of the Omni.

That looks so much cooler than the Omni/Horizon. Did these also get the trunk 2.2?

With difficulty. Most of those left seem to be the Lotus version which is a collector’s car at this stage and priced accordingly. The basic ones (they started with a 1.0 engine from the Hillman Imp) are few and far between.

The Sunbeam had nothing in common with the Horizon - it was smaller and rwd. The engine choices were 930 cc (from the Hillman Imp), 1300 or 1600 cc (from the Hillman/Chrysler/Talbot Avenger) plus very small numbers of the Lotus model which had a 2.2 Lotus engine. The Horizon (in Europe) had Simca engines plus a Peugeot diesel later on. Other than the shape US and other Horizons shared almost nothing.
